TULSA, OK - Is your funny fuel running on empty? Well, fill your prescription for laughs with The Comedy Clinic – Tulsa’s Comedy Troupe, on November 13th, 2004 at Suede, 3340 S. Peoria Ave. as they perform their all NEW show “The Doctors Will Laugh At You Now.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
These Physicians of Fun, who will be performing in their last public show of 2004, have been described as a cross between “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and “Saturday Night Live.” Their hilarious ORIGINAL sketches will be followed by their hysterical improv games, which include audience participation. The Comedy Clinic gives fans a local flavor in their sketch comedy, the likes of which won't be seen on television or anywhere else in Tulsa.
Founded in 2002, The Comedy Clinic features local improv veterans Ben Beckham, Maria Swindell, Jeff Turner and Antoine Wilson. Beckham and Turner founded the Clinic along with charter member Swindell, a 1991 graduate of Bartlesville High School, after the three performed together in the now defunct troupe the Obnoxious Party Guests, a group Beckham co-founded in 1991. Wilson joined the group in August 2003 after being enticed by the two founders with whom he graduated from Tulsa’s Edison High School in 1990. The Clinic has performed all over Green Country including four shows in Bartlesville this year, the last of which was in October. These Comedy Doctors have also performed private parties for local companies, area churches and even political functions. But when it comes to their show, Brookside is their home.
"I can't think of a better place to be than Brookside," said Clinic co-founder and Director Beckham. "And who wouldn't want to be at the Suede on a weekend? It's an incredible night spot for us and people looking for fun in Tulsa.” Turner feels like he is at home at the Suede. "I grew up in this part of town, so it seems only right that I get to have fun like this in what I feel like is my own back yard." While these locally grown comedians thrive off audience laughter, they have yet to quit their day jobs.
“I am an IT manager for a petrochemical engineering company,” said Beckham. “It’s as funny as it sounds.” Swindell works as a program manager for Family and Children Service, Turner is in marketing for a local manufacturing company and Wilson works in the health care industry.
So how did these guys get together and become so funny? Turner jokes, “It is caused to a deep resentment of our family. All that love and attention and caring and support. Who needs it, right?”
Beckham counters with a quip of his own, “Basically, we lost a bet with God.”
Regardless of what brought these Medics of Madness together, it is definitely to the benefit for those who see their show. You two can see their show, it’s easy! Advance tickets are $8 and must be purchased by Friday, November 12th, 2004. Tickets are available for purchase online, as well, with Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $10. For individual or group ticket information, call 918-664-0414, or visit www.thecomedyclinic.com.
