TULSA, Okla – Yogi Bera called it Déjà vu all over again. The Comedy Clinic
calls it home, as they start off their 9th season of laughs on the stage at
Ivey, 33rd & Peoria, the very place the group dubbed Tulsa’s Comedy Troupe
debuted in 2002. Show time is 8pm on Saturday, September 25th, 2010.
Brookside’s Physicians of Fun, Ben Beckham, Maria Gus and Jeff Turner are the
original and founding members are some of Tulsa’s most experienced and versatile
local improv veterans. They have performed in festivals, private parties and on
stage from Drumright to Bartlesville, to Broken Arrow to Enid and back to Tulsa
for thousands of satisfied, if not adoring, fans since their start in November
2002. The Comedy Clinic has been called Tulsa's very own version of Whose Line
Is It Anyway thanks to their 90-minute show of improvisation games that includes
audience participation. Beckham and Turner first met at Tulsa’s Edison High
School in 1987 before meeting Gus, a Bartlesville native, in early 2002 at an
open audition for a now defunct comedy troupe. The three have been best of
friends ever since and have created a few memories and even more laughs.
Quite the journeymen - and woman - these days, the comedy docs will continue a
run that has taken them from Brookside to the Blue Dome district to Cherry
Street, to Downtown Tulsa and now back to Brookside where Ivey ownership
couldn’t be happier to have them. “We wanted to make this happen,” said Ivey’s
Tony Henry. “They have done so well for us at all our venues over the years,
once Ivey was ready we were ready to bring them back.” Season 9 will take
showcase the Comedy Clinic in multiple spots including downtown, south Tulsa and
Bartlesville. But the group said the most important date right now is September
25th.
“Not only is it exactly three months from Christmas, “ Turner said beaming like
a 4-year old, “It is our season opener!” “I’m not sure what is more exciting,?“
Beckham responded. To the side, Gus clarified the boyish exuberance of her
troupe mates by simply stating, “They still don’t know about Santa Claus.” But
they do know everyone should be excited about the 25th of September.
The Show will start at 8pm at Ivey (33rd & Peoria). Advance tickets are $9 or
$10 at the door. Advance tickets must be purchased by Friday, September 24th,
2010. Tickets are available for purchase online, as well, with Visa, MasterCard,
American Express and Discover at www.thecomedyclinic.com. For individual or
group ticket information, call (918) 928-7161, email info@thecomedyclinic.com or
visit www.thecomedyclinic.com. The Comedy Clinic is available for private
bookings, interviews and private consultations by calling the same number.
